This journey began in 1926 when Coco Chanel created an icon – the first real Little Black Dress – dubbed as “Chanel’s Ford”. Since then, women have relied on this little garment to save the day, so much so that LBD is deemed as a uniform for all women of taste. In this blog, I’ve come up with fall looks using LBD, creating 3 different looks for 3 different occasions.
I cannot really count how many looks I can put together using a short black dress that is cut simply, with no distracting details or patterns. However, here I have compiled 3 looks, one is formal, another is a look that you can flaunt when you go for brunch with your girlies, and the last one has more casual vibes to it, allowing you to wear it anywhere and everywhere.
The little black dress
I’ve got my little black dress in a bodycon fit, with a sheer overlay. My dress is approximately 31 inches long, you can also opt for a longer one that ends right above your knees to recreate these fall looks.
Before we go any further, here are some things you need to consider:
- Your LBD should be as simple as possible
- It shouldn’t have any colorful details
- You can opt for different shapes and silhouettes – long, short, fitted or flowing
Look 1: Brunch
For the brunch look, I’ve layered the LBD with an oversized army green crop top and added a chunky belt to make the outfit more defined. I’ve paired the outfit with my fall favorite boots and a black sling. I’ve gone minimal with the accessories by just adding a silver-toned ring and some teeny tiny stud earrings. I think this look goes better with a fitted black dress rather than a flowy one.
Look 2: Formal
For the formal look, I topped the dress with a tan belt with bow details and a longline black blazer. This is that girlboss dress that you need when you need to slay that office event. Using two wardrobe staples to create a classic look that can never go out of style. I’ve paired the outfit with black platform sliders, which has criss cross straps and golden buckles on top. A longline jacket adds a whole new dimension of style and comfort, giving you both coziness and confidence at the same time. You can also go for a more formal blazer and pair it with some pumps to keep it strictly formal.
Look 3: Shopping
This is the most comfortable fall look that you can create out of a LBD.
Little Black Dress + Oversized Sweater + Shoes + Beanie = COMFORT
I’ve layered my dress with an oversized sweater with black and white stripes all over it and red cuffs. I’ve paired it with white laceless trainers, which can keep you moving through those endless racks to find your next perfect outfit that you are soon going to rock. I’ve added a pom-pom knit beanie, which adds tons of cuteness to the outfit. You can also go for any knitted sweater in any solid color or go for a printed bomber jacket to add a lot more drama to your outfit. In case it gets warmer while you wait in the queue, you can always tie the sweater around your waist (and not your neck, unless you want to be a sweaterdouche!).
After a long day, you can also rock the little black dress at night by throwing on a leather jacket, some classic stilettoes, and a statement clutch for a head turning dinner date look. I’ll give you some bonus points if you can carry a crimson or an emerald colored box clutch with it. <3

Long live the little black dress.
